The newly redesigned 2022 Upper Park Designs Shift!
The new Shift from Upper Park Designs is one of, if not the best lightweight/limited capacity bags available right now. While comfort is always slightly subjective, we found that this bag was one of the more comfortable bags we tried. With a capacity of 10-18 discs this is definitely more suited to people that don't carry a huge number of discs, but excels at making all discs readily available.
What we loved about the bag! The Shift has really well thought out design aspects that we really enjoyed. The straps are really comfortable and well padded without being too bulky, and they have pockets for storage at the bottom waist straps that are perfect for smaller items like keys or even a range finder. The top mini pocket as plenty of room for various size minis and is a great place to prop up your phone if you're looking to record yourself throw. The outside pockets are made of a stretchy material and can accommodate a wide variety of shapes and sizes of discs, and can hold up to 5-6 discs on each side depending on the thickness of the discs.
The internal storage is plentiful, with the the divided sections holding 3 pairs of discs vertically, which makes them really easy to see and readily available. And there's plenty of storage in the bottom of the main compartment that you could easily fit a sweater or a stack of discs. This bag also prominently features a large waterbottle holder front and center that will hold large Nalgene bottles easily or can hold some towels if you aren't carrying water, and the Velcro section on the front is amazing, the perfect place to park your favorite patches. Our favorite part of this bag though has the look and feel of this bag. It's made from lightweight but durable materials and the build quality on the bag we got seems top notch.
What we didn't love as much,
As far as any gripes with the bag, there's not not much to pick on. With our unit, if the internal vertical stack of discs is full, then pulling and replacing discs can bind and catch on each other which can be frustrating. There's also a small pocket in the bottom outer section on the front of the bag (on the expandable pocket) which at first glance seems like it would be awesome for something small like a whale sac or a phone. However, as soon as you put discs in that side slot it puts pressure on that side pocket making it really difficult to get anything in and out of it. Admittedly both of those gripes are us being nit-picky.
If you're looking for a tournament style bag that holds a ton of discs then this bag isn't it. But if capacity limit isn't your main concern than you owe it to yourself to at least consider this bag, as it's one of the favorites of any that we've used. Make sure you keep an eye out for discount codes from your favorite pros if purchasing one of these bags. You'll get 10% off your bag and support the player and their touring efforts as well!
